Recently, the team on their way from the Great River Great Journey / The Ode to the Yangtze activity organized by Xinhuanet, co-organized by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), went to the Wanquan Primary School in Dema Village, Geyi Town, Xuanwei, Qujing City, Yunnan Province, gave a lively science lecture on “Water resources protection and water safety, what can we do”. The event was broadcast live via the new media platforms CBCGDF Media and has attracted widespread attention from the society.

Dema Village is located in the southwest of Geyi Town, 13 kilometers away from the town government. The highest altitude is 2,350 meters, and the lowest is 1,600 meters. The altitude difference is large. It belongs to the alpine mountainous area. This village was once a poor village, and the villagers had difficulty in drinking water, or the water quality did not meet the standard. The income is mainly based on planting and animal husbandry.

As China's 832 national-level poverty-stricken counties have all been lifted out of poverty, Dema Village, located in Geyi Town, Yunnan, has achieved a turnaround with the government's key care, support from caring enterprises and the help of social organizations.

Now in Dema Village, every household has built water cellars to store natural precipitation for daily use. The Wanquan Primary School in this village is also built magnificent. Since 2018, SAIC Volkswagen has successively provided more than 1.6 million yuan in aid to help Dema Village to fight poverty, with good results.

Today's Dema Village has achieved "freedom of drinking water". Cherishing water, protecting the environment, and mastering the skills of saving water are included in the focuses of this open lecture and the public welfare activities on this journey.

This Great River Great Journey / The Ode to the Yangtze is organized by Xinhuanet, co-organized by CBCGDF, and SAIC Volkswagen’s SUV family brand cooperates throughout the whole process. It builds a communication camp dominated by a number of mainstream media, unites multiple social media platforms, and gathers celebrities from all walks of life, passing through eleven provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions including Qinghai, Tibet, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, and Anhui. This activity mainly focuses on the ecological environment protection, humanities and nature, poverty alleviation, major power projects, cultural inheritance and other contents of the cities along the Yangtze River, forming a series of outcomes. In addition, with the theme of ecological protection of the Yangtze River, a series of open lectures on "How much do you know about the splendid Yangtze River” was taught to the young people along the way to scientifically popularize the importance of ecological diversity and allow more people to participate in environmental protection.
