A message sent by Zhou raised awareness for beekeepers once again.
"The queen bee is in terrible shape; I don't know if she could make it. If she dies, the whole hive goes down with her." Zhou told the CBCGDF Hive Fund.
On August 3, the beekeeper Zhou reported that the local farmers sprayed pesticide without them moving the hives away due to the quarantine and the blooming flowers. This has caused them devastating damage, there are more than 1,100 boxes of bees, and 80% of them died.
Seeing the once buzzing beehives surrounded by piles of dead bees, Zhou feels heartbroken.
March and April 2020 is the critical period for China's fight against the epidemic, which coincides with the transition of beekeepers. The bees once relyed on sugar to spend the winter need to collect honey in the wild to pass the spring breeding period safely. And that's when Zhou contacted the Anti-epidemic Working Group of CBCGDF.
Zhou is a native of Zhejiang and has been beekeeping for more than 20 years. To pursue a better source of nectar, Zhou has been chasing flowers and collecting nectar in Xinjiang for a long time. On the eve of the Spring Festival in 2020, Lao Zhou should arrange the wintering bees, as usual, returning to his hometown in Zhejiang, celebrating the festival with his parents. However, the sudden outbreak of the epidemic disrupted Zhou's pace. He is not allowed to leave, and Xinjiang is not permitted to enter. There is no other way but to stay in his hometown. Seeing that the weather is getting warmer every day, the bees will soon start to breed. Zhou is anxious but to no avail. This was almost a reflection for all beekeepers across the country at that time: after the outbreak, the level of national epidemic prevention increased, and traffic was interrupted in most areas, so beekeepers were continuously affected.
Previously, CBCGDF has been helping the beekeepers in the transportations. In this process, CBCGDF has set up the Beehive Fund to help beekeepers restore production and protect the ecological population of bees through targeted assistance.
Through many provinces and cities, from Zhejiang to Xinjiang, with the help of CBCGDF, Zhou finally returned to his home in Xinjiang in March.
Half-year later, the second report from Zhou has caught Hive Fund's attention immediately.
He was worried and confused at the same time: all the way we came to help the pollination, why do the farmers suddenly start spraying?
It seems that a contradiction has been reached. Farmers must protect their crops, and beekeepers must collect honey to keep bees. How? The Hive Fund held a discussion meeting on this.
On the morning of March 11, 2020, a funding agreement with the love from CBCGDF Hive Fund was delivered to the beekeeper Xu right on time. When the deal was accepted, the nearly half-hundred-year-old, lonely and helpless older man looked very excited, and tears were about to come out of his eyes. He tremblingly held the volunteer's hand, shaking it up and down, trying to express his gratitude.
10,000 yuan is not much, but it is a timely rain for Xu, When Liu died under pressure in Xichang, Sichuan, the same idea crossed Xu's mind. The debt and the dying, dead bee almost crushed the half-hundred-year-old man. Fortunately, many friends who cared about him kept calling him and raising funds for him. Xu pushed through, thanks to all these warm messages.
As a target fund for agriculture assistance, the "Hive Fund" provides a certain amount of free financial support to help bee farmers, growers, keepers, etc. who are facing short-term financial difficulties in restoring production. After the assisted target resumes production, a certain percentage of the assistance funds will be returned to the Hive Fund based on the actual situation to help more beekeepers or other types of production personnel in need of support.
After receiving Zhou's call for help, CBCGDF Hive Fund acted quickly and determined the following four aspects of work:
① It is recommended that beekeepers should buy insurance, and insurance companies should set up individual service products for beekeepers.
② Help beekeepers apply for emergency relief from the local civil affairs department, since bee pollination is an essential part of agricultural production. The long-term beekeeping activities play a long-term role in supporting and coordinating domestic agricultural production.
③ The agricultural sector's support for beekeepers is to support the development of agriculture. For emergencies, we should follow the rule of "special matters need special handling," which will not only benefit the agricultural production and local economy but also boost national unity.
④ As a national charity foundation, CBCGDF will also fully support beekeepers to tide over the difficulties by mobilizing public funding.
How to do well in these four aspects? Zhou Jinfeng, secretary-general of the CBCGDF, emphasized the "two cycles" spirit of the central government.
On July 21, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized at a symposium on entrepreneurs held under the auspices of the need to "gradually form a new development pattern with the domestic cycle as the main body and the mutual promotion of the domestic and international dual cycles"; July 30, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee The meeting pointed out that it is necessary to "accelerate the formation of a new development pattern with domestic and international cycles as the main body and mutual promotion of domestic and international cycles."
Under the guidance of the new development pattern of the "domestic cycle" and "dual cycle," we must rethink and change our thinking to serve the new development pattern. Especially this year is a crucial year for the decisive battle against poverty and the decisive victory over a well-off society in an all-round way. How to ensure that some people do not return to poverty because of such things? The CBCGDF Hive Fund hopes to give beekeepers particular fine-tuning and allow beekeepers to circulate when the new closed policy and the long-term regional private portfolio policy are implemented in the future. The current technology can completely guarantee the circulation and production of beekeepers without increasing the risk of the epidemic (mainly because they rarely encounter people in the wild, and the risk of the outbreak is shallow).
Through the two cycles, we hope that the beekeepers will be unimpeded. The CBCGDF Hive Fund hopes that the resumption of work and production will achieve more significant results and that more talents will be able to flow and make their contributions to the construction of our country, writing the paper with their contributions.
